Today we are going to talk about closet basics. We all have that one shirt or pair of jeans or a perfect dress that we fall back on again and again, right? My essential pieces are simple, low key and comfortable. I spend most of my day at home and hate ironing or hand-washing so I value easy, fuss-free clothes. Your can’t-live-without pieces may vary from mine but I think there are a few basics we all probably have (or want to have) in our closets.
Below are five closet staples that I love. The best part is that each piece is fairly made! There are some budget-friendly options as well as higher end items because buying ethically can be done on any budget. Just sayin’.
Everlane // Krochet Kids // Threads 4 Thought // Alternative Apparel
1. The Basic Tee
Simple tees are one of my favorite things to wear. Case in point: my dark green Everlane tee that rarely spends time in the closet! Plain tees are perfect by themselves or layered with other pieces. And they are easy to find fairly for just over ten bucks.
2. The Breezy Top
I love airy, slightly dressy tops. They are a little bit fancy but comfortable enough to wear for everyday occasions. Plus, because they are made from woven material, they last for a long time and still look good, which is always a win in my book!
3. Everyday Jeans
The majority of the pants in my closet are of the denim variety. They are workhorses that never go out of style and look great in a variety of situations, which I think that is their finest feature. I LOVE the fair options above but I will be honest with you guys, denim is still something I buy second hand, strictly due to my small clothing budget. Maybe one day….
4. The pencil skirt.
I love a good black skirt. I don’t know if it’s the timelessness that draws me in or what but they are awesome. You can dress them up or down and they make whatever else you are wearing look good. They are perfect. Hallelujah. Amen.
5. The Little Black Dress
Every girl needs a dress they love and feel good in, whether is black or red or pink with yellow polka dots! I personally love black on me, so I would snatch up any one of these dresses in a second. Especially that vintage darling on Etsy. Someone please go buy it, it’s so pretty!
Well, that’s my contribution to fashion! On Friday I will be sharing my favorite shoes and accessories. Woot-woot!
Do you have a piece of clothes that you just can’t live without? What is it?
